The Friends of Hawkes Library began its “Come and Create” Summer Educational Series in May. From 2pm to 4pm (EST) on the first Sunday afternoon of each month, a guest artist will be teaching a new skill at Hawkes Library in West Point.
The May seminar focused on creating butterfly gardens and was taught by Sharon Cowart, owner of Shady Gardens Nursery. Thea McElvy, a talented local artist, will teach jewelry making techniques in June. Guests of the July workshop will create glass pendants featuring personal photographs under the instruction of Amy McDow of Artistic Moments: Photography and Design. The August workshop will introduce a unique technique of creating watercolor flowers and will be led by local watercolor artist, Becky Guinn. The West Point Woman's Club will be hosting each event.
The workshops include the costs of supplies for the “make and take” projects and are $15 for members of the Friends of Hawkes Library ($10 annual membership) and $25 for the general public. Space is limited and pre-registration is required for all workshops. Please contact Hawkes Library at 706-645-1549 for more information or to sign up for one or more of these events.
